Solang village is the gorgeous Solang valley, particularly a pictorial spot presenting awesome scenery of snow clad mountains and glaciers. Solang valley, also known as Snow Point is famous for its 300 m ski lift. The valley is reachable by taxi or trekking is another option. The place is also well known for adventurous sports whether summer sports or winter sports. Parachuting, skating/skiing, zorbing and paragliding are some of the famous sports played here. Few ski agencies also offer different courses as well as equipment to enjoy but these agencies are active only in winter seasons since snow melts in summer season. To enjoy to the maximum, it is best to visit Solang Valley during the months of January and February, when this spot becomes busy with activities. This fabulous place is also the center of the annual winter skiing festival. Besides, the valley also holds a shrine of Lord Shiva on the top of a hill. Hidimba temple and Rahala Waterfalls are also few nearby attractions to visit. Solang Valley is in a side valley at the top of the Kullu valley. It is the site of Manali's ski school and, once the snow has gone, all the local paragliding 'schools'. Phatru is a steep, rocky face above Solang Nullah, facing roughly east. Take-off is about one hour's climb above the ski school. There is no top landing, but good bottom landing near the school or in the fields above Solang village on the opposite side of the river. From 10am until 1pm or so there are many excellent thermal sources.
One Needs to travel about 10 kilometers from the picturesque hill station of Manali to reach the fascinating Solang Valley. At an altitude of about 8500 feet above the sea level one can enjoy the bliss of nature on the banks of the river Beas. The Solang valley in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh is a place where one can celebrate peace amidst the snow capped peaks and the lush greenery of the dense forests. The serene atmosphere created by the vastness of the azure sky, the ravishing beauty of the green valleys and the snow lining on the distant peaks can make one feel the pleasure of being in a heaven abode. There are various ski packages arranged by the HPTDC during the winter months. Solang valley of Manali is well connected to other important cities of North India as well. There are regular buses plying to this place from cities like Delhi and Chandigarh. The hill resort of Solang valley is situated on the National Highway no. 21. The nearest international airport to the beautiful hill station of Solang valley is the one located in New Delhi. For domestic flights, services can be availed from the Kullu Bhunter Airport. The best time to visit the Solang valley is during the months of January and February, when this calm place becomes busy with activities.
Activities at the Solang Valley Camp Retreat
During the day indulge in a fitness game of volleyball, badminton, cricket, cycling or lounge peacefully on the hammock beside the gushing river. Short distance trek with backpack picnic lunch is another favorite with the campers. And then as dusk sets in, the surroundings take on a smoky hue against the clear starry night, and the mercury begins to plummet, you know it is time for making merry around the dancing flames of the bonfire with a hot drink, bar-be-cue, and shaking a leg or two to the peppy music. Paragliding for the daredevils, Zorbing - a huge transparent ball in which one is strapped & rolled down the grass meadows, horse riding, mountain biking, river crossing, rock climbing & rappelling are amongst a plethora of options. And hey! Keep a watch out for your Bollywood heartthrobs too! Solang Valley is one of the favorite shooting hotspots of the Indian film industry. The snow covered Solang Valley in winters ( October to March ) offers a lifetime experience of sheer thrill when you get astride a snow scooter and zoom to the summit of the peaks, fervently try to ski, go sledging, mount a Yak, sit inside a tube and zip down the steep slopes - snow mobiling! There is so much more to be captured in your cameras and treasured in your memories forever!!! In summers all snow activities organized by us take place at the snow points of Kothi, Marhi, Beas Nallah or Rohtang Pass depending on the months of travel.
